And rest assured - we will work hard to match you with:

  • a prospective father with whom you are comfortable;
  • a leading IVF physician;
  • legal representation to ensure you have a seamless experience as you fulfill the role of surrogate.

Surrogacy - Traditional and Gestational

In traditional surrogacy, the surrogate mother donates the eggs as well as carries the child to term. This differs from gestational surrogacy in which a donor other than the surrogate mother provides the eggs.

Surrogacy utilizes in-vitro fertilization (IVF) to fertilize donor eggs and implant them in the uterus of the surrogate mother. With IVF, eggs are removed from the egg donor's body and fertilized with sperm from the prospective parent in a laboratory. Several embryos are then placed into a surrogate mother's uterus where they can implant on the uterine lining and begin to develop. During this course of action, both the egg donor and surrogate mother will receive medications to prepare them for the IVF procedure. Our IVF physicians have a high first pregnancy rate - some as high as 75%.

Sequence of Medical Procedures

Following a match with the prospective parents, you will undergo medical and psychological screening consisting of blood tests, general physical health evaluations, psychological evaluation and an ultrasound. An IVF physician will describe the process to you from beginning to end. Once you've completed the medical and psychological screening, you will be matched with prospective parents whom you will have the opportunity to meet and get to know.

Next, the surrogate mother and egg donor are given medications to synchronize their menstrual cycles in preparation for the IVF procedure. The medications you receive, as the surrogate mother, will help your uterine lining thicken in preparation for accepting the transferred embryos.

At the optimum time, eggs are recovered from the donor's ovary. The recovered eggs are fertilized and incubated until they become embryos, whose cells have divided two or three times. Between two and three days after fertilization, the embryos are placed in the surrogate mother's uterus The surrogate mother will be required to lie quietly for an hour following the procedure before leaving the clinic to rest in bed for 24 to 48 hours. If the embryo successfully implants in the uterus, the pregnancy will continue as normal. A pregnancy test will be administered 10 days after the transfer. During the first trimester the surrogate mother will receive injected medications to help ensure the pregnancy will continue to follow along a healthy development path.

Compensation and Criteria

We respect the fact that a child is a priceless gift, not a commodity. At the same time, your contribution to the happiness of a prospective parent merits compensation. Our compensation package is designed to meet the individual needs of each and every surrogate mother. The compensation package begins at $22,000 plus incidentals.

In our experience, we've found certain women are the best candidates for surrogacy. Therefore, we ask that a surrogate:

  • Not be older than 40 years of age; and,
  • Already have at least one child of her own.
OurBirthRight handles all of the legal aspects for you as the surrogate mother, as well as coordinating and scheduling all medical procedures for you and the prospective parents.

Before you begin the IVF procedure, your compensation will be paid in advance by the prospective parents and secured in a trust account managed by OurBirthRight on your behalf.
